predicts that the right wing media will reverse global warming by convincing us it does not exist before tackling issues such as the liberal myth that man is related to monkeys, easily disproved simply by looking at your mother and father, and that old yarn about the “spherical” shape of our planet, the clearly two dimensional plane we walk upon every day.

Last year my siblings and I gave money to a charity instead of exchanging gifts and I did some research on well-managed charities that spend the majority of their donations on actually helping the people they are organized to support — this year I’m making another donation to theIRC.org, which helps refugees around the world, particularly helping kids who are left homeless by conflict in places like Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the Congo.

two pots of turkey soup in two days — one traditional, the other a sort of italian turkey tomato. Putting the carcass to good use. I put some in the freezer to eat after the baby is born in early Febuary. Jill is about to start the nesting phase and weill want a well-stocked larder.

24 hours to appreciate torrential downpours of Bergen before I’m on the road again. Tomorrow Helsinki, then lecturing in Jyväskylä central Finland Sun-Wednesday. Less glamorous than it sounds.

had a good trip to Dundee — my talks went well and I enjoyed learning more about the poetry beyond text project — which will result in some interesting elit reearch in Scotland and beyond.

Are you saying you want the government to pay room and board for every illegal alien you encounter, every time? If you find an illegal alien doing yard work or working at the dishwasher of your favorite restaurant, you fiscal sense tells you that the best thing to do is send them to a federal prison and pay for their lodging, food, and health care?

I will not make facebook better for people I barely know by writing on their walls. I am not convinced my graffiti will improve their lives.

feeling compelled to join petitions and vote on aspects of social networking software interfaces makes me feel pathetic, as if I am taking part in a puppet sham of democracy over ultimately trivial distinctions which might nonetheless change my participatory experience. I do not petition facebook. I do not vote.

enjoyed the Nature Theatre of Oklahoma’s Romeo and Juliet last night, and the conversation afterwards with the directors and cast.

swine flu vaccinated as of this morning — strange throbby tingling in my arm is quite likely the beginning of my body’s response to the weakened viral invaders that are at least theoretically teaching my cells to be immune, as far as I understand it. Weird to think that to prevent the disease we must share our bodies with it.

when people push the “like” button on stories about mass murder, I am troubled. There is a problem of articulation. I mean, was the fact-based story of this slaughter of 12 people or this workplace murder of 6 “like”-able? Or was the reporter’s grammar correct, and you liked that? What did you like?

#network09 tweets — for the past week I’ve been posting links to papers, works, courses, etc. by people presenting at the Network as a Space and Medium for Collaborative Interdisciplinary Art Practice — sort of an experiment in using twitter for a digital culture conference — here’s an archive of those links.

Anytime someone opens up with a gun it is bad news — when two soldiers shoot thirty other soldiers about to be sent off to war and kill twelve of them it is a doubly tragic waste of human lives. What a sad awful mess in Texas.

The moon is now out in Bergen 19 hours a day. Moonrise 5:08PM, Moonset 12:30PM. Pretty cool on a clear day like today, with clear blue skies and a big round moon in the sky.

After Jessica didn’t eat much dinner last night, she woke up at 6AM famished. This afternoon, I decided to take her to the shop with me and asked her what she wanted me to make for dinner. She pointed at things as we walked through the store, and picked out what had for dinner tonight: corn on the cob, salmon, brocolli (in her favorite gorgonzola sauce), and grapes. And she gobbled it up.

what I love is when the price of an airline tickets goes up by $200 *while* you’re booking the flight. That just tickles me. Oh, wait, you’re actually going to buy it? Here have this price instead. Growling noises and profanity.

just got invited to write a regular column on electronic literature for the Norwegian literary magazine Vagant in 2010 — should be an excellent opportunity to raise awareness and interest in electronic literature in Norway.
