A master’s student sends me a thesis, from Sweden. (I haven’t read it yet, so I have no comments on its quality, but I am impressed with its apparent word count and the certainty of its paragraphical heft).

Audun gave me some copies of the new issue of Vagant yesterday and it looks fantastic. It includes the first installment of my new e-lit column “Platform 2” amidst all sorts of other contemporary lit goodies. Looking forward to reading it (as soon as I finish writing the second column, which is already behind schedule).

I may have written a conference paper for nothin, but I don’t mind provided that none of my summer vacation plans get moot. Missing an academic conference is one thing. Taking the girls to Tivoli, or to see Grandma and Grandpa and the aunts and uncles in Chicago (and to get Benjamin to his first Cubs’ game on time), and tapas in Barcelona and beach time in Costa Brava, now those are *another* thing Mr. Volcano.

I guess this rain, which is supposed to get real heavy and miserable over the next 24 hours, is actually ACID RAIN due to the heavy amount of ash content from the volcano in Iceland, but to be honest, it seems nowhere near as bad as the inversion / automobile pollution issue was in January. We are collecting Iceland volcano ash in a coffee cup on our porch, for posterity.

Bachelorprogram i digital kultur :: UiB
www.uib.no
Our new BA program in Digital Culture is kicking off this fall — the end of a long process and the beginning of another one. In the past two years, we changed the name of our program, developed a specific BA degree, and completely revised our curriculum. There are a number of new courses in the mix and a coherent focus on practical and theoretical approaches to technology from a humanistic perspective, in particular engaging with the changes in cultural artifacts and practices resulting from widespread use and engagement with computers and networks. Looking forward to welcoming the first batch of students this fall. The deadline for applications to the BA program is April 15th.
