Site For 9/11 Trial Isn’t Its Only Obstacle – NYTimes.com
www.nytimes.com
Can’t believe the conservative political posturing going on around the location of the 9/11 trials. Don’t these people ever stop? A salient point from this article; “348 international and domestic terrorists are being held in federal prisons after they were convicted in civilian criminal trials. By contrast, in the eight years since the Bush administration first set up military commissions, only three Guantánamo detainees have been convicted, in part because of legal challenges to the tribunals. Two of the three received modest sentences and are now free.”

We’re wrapping up the collection of new photos for the Implementation book this week. We now have legible photos of all 240 stickers in situ around the world. We’ll still add new photos to the collection online, though we’re going to start layout of the book after the 1st. Any implementers out there who have sticker photos from the latest round, please send them in this weekend if you can.

just watched the State of the Union address. Is it just me, or did most of the Republicans seem shifty-eyed and somehow *ashamed*, as if they had just lifted a pack of candy cigarettes from the 7-11 and were hoping that their parents didn’t find out?

damn pipe burst in the basement this morning, a couple days after the washing machine broke. Didn’t damage much of our stuff, but we own 40% of any repairs made to the building. bummed to hear that UiB is discontinuing the guest researcher program, which has been great for us as we have built the program in digital culture, funding extended visits by Stuart Moulthrop last year and Roderick Coover this coming spring. I hope the cut is temporary, so that we we will be able to bring more researchers to UiB in the future. The program really helped to liven our research environment.

I like Bergen more the longer I live here — the city is responding to a serious pollution problem with some serious measures — shutting down garages in the center and allowing auto traffic on alternate days by license plate number. It will cause some inconvenience, but it will make the air easier to breathe.

Due to weather conditions, geography, and car-centric civic planning, Bergen is currently one of the most polluted cities in Europe. The rain usually takes care of our car problem, but after a couple of unusually cold winter months and almost no rain, our air is nasty stuff. I say close the parking garages and triple the tolls until air quality improves. We need to make it inconvenient to drive.
